Hunter FAQ

Are hunters good for end game? I want to do a lot of damage. Is this a good class for me?

Yes it is. From my experiences of raiding guilds, hunters appear at the top of the damage meter most often. This is because hunters can do reasonable damage over a short time, but most importantly can keep up this steady damage through long fights. Warlocks excel with groups, and mages with trash fights and short bosses, but hunters really push ahead in those longer boss fights lasting over five minutes, just because they are more sustainable than the other ranged classes.

I want to be helpful to my group. Is this a good class for me?

Yes, as you can do high damage when needed, you can Crowd Control in different ways such as freezing and frost trap, with others as well. Traps for different situations, different stings for different mobs. You can pull some difficult mobs to the group without drawing aggro. Lastly, having your own mini tank, and other CC methods depending on which way you spec.

Is it possible to play a Hunter without using a pet?

A question I wanted to know when I chose the hunter. You can play without your pet, although they can be helpful. When questing they aren’t a need, but they make life easier and I don’t suggest not using it when you have the choice. Having a pet doesn’t make you worse off than other classes if it’s dead. Hunters are the only other class with pets Hunters just have their pet to help keep mobs away to shot at.

Is it possible to play a melee-oriented Hunter?

Basically, I’ll just say no. Up to level 30ish you can.. but what’s the point. Your bow does so much more! The only reason for a hunter to melee is to try and help you get away. Hunters only get two melee spells. A big hit, with a long cool down, and a small hit which slows the target. What I do, is once the target gets near run at it, use both skills so hit it hard, and slow it down, then run away and continue shooting it. This should be the only melee you use. If you want a melee class pick a rogue or warrior..

What’s the spec for levelling?

All three are fine. I used marksmanship and didn’t have much problem. However the best is beast mastery. It lets your pet become a lot more part of the game, making your life easier. Your pet becomes a better tank, letting you deal more damage without drawing aggro as easily. This saves time, and is far easier, but a lot people find it less fun. It’s really worth testing all three, and choose the one that works best for you.

There are too many Hunters. How do I distinguish myself?

Become really good at a certain aspect of the class. Make your own unique talent spec, and specialize in dealing damage, or in CC, or getting a high amount of crit and dodge. Or just try to become a great all round hunter.

Another way is to become well known by the different aspects of the game, such as exploration, solo group quests and using different ranges of CC to show a sign of skill. I personally started to get known by soloing many 5 man quests, kiting rares that would need many players to kill.

Also, to try to be the first to do different things, such as getting top level on the server, to get a rare mount or obtain certain gear or recipes. Get all the rare recipes and announce that you can craft them, getting known as the main crafter of that trade.

One of the last main ways is to become a guild master. Lots of people will look up to you, and if you do well, you will become really famous. Even if you’re just a normal member, people will remember you.

Just have fun, show your personality and always try to be friendly.

Are hunters easy to play?

I have tried out every class, with many high levels, and I will say no, they are one hardest to play if you haven’t got the right technique. This is due to the dead zone. Any other class can attack as normal with a mob attacking them (save longer cast time), where as the hunter cannot shoot away.

Although if you can keep at range, then they can be very easy depending on your situation. I think it’s a great varying class, easy at times, hard at others, and well worth a try out!
